It’s official! The Organic Adventurer has pledged to participate in No Meat March. This meat-free month of activities, information, discounts at area businesses and restaurants and more is sponsored in part by Girls Gone Green, a local (Northeast Florida) organization dedicated to exploring environmental, animal and health issues. GGG says of the event, “We were blown away to see hundreds of residents interested in bettering their health, the environment, animal treatment and everything else tied into one’s diet.”
No Meat March is a pledge that you can take to not eat flesh of any kind for 31 days. You can also pledge to not eat animal milk, eggs, cheese, eggs or butter if you wish. Or you can opt to receive the daily information without taking the pledge.
The sign-up process is really easy, and you don’t have to live in Northeast Florida to participate! Just go to the No Meat March website, enter your contact information and click to pledge or to just get the info. That’s it! In return, you get a daily email with event details, recipes and other supportive information, and you get the discounts mentioned above. Additionally, you get better health, you don’t have to worry about all the contamination (and resulting disease that you hear about on the national news!) that occurs during factory-farm meat production, and you’ll save money not buying expensive meat.
So what’s really wrong with meat? That will be the subject of many blogs during the month of March, so sign up to receive blog updates via email subscription! What I will say for the moment is that, for me, it’s not so much about “wrong” or “right” as it is about making the best, healthiest, most conscious choices. Check out the No Meat March and Girls Gone Green websites for tons of resources and information.
And meat-free is fun! Come out to the No Meat March launch party on Thursday, March 1, at 6 p.m. at Farah’s Pita Stop Café at 3980 Southside Blvd. in Jacksonville. Also, join Dig Foods for an organic, vegan dinner and beer pairing on Friday, March 2, at Intuition Ale Works at 720 King St. There are more events scheduled almost every day for No Meat March, so sign up!
Can you tell I’m excited? I’d love to know what readers think about eating less or no meat. What are your questions, concerns, stories, suggestions and comments?
